Tina Kourtis, MS

Tina Kourtis is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who is dedicated to working with people of all ages and backgrounds.  Tina enjoys working with children, adolescents, parents, and adults. Tina believes that a collaborative relationship between the patient and therapist is essential to meeting treatment goals.  She believes that with support, psychoeducation, and a commitment to change, patients will learn the skills necessary to achieve a healthier lifestyle and contentment. Tina practices evidence-based treatment techniques such as: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based strategies, play and expressive therapies with children, strength-based strategies, and has an interest in using eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) techniques in the future. Tina also has advanced training in rape crisis counseling as well as grief counseling.

Tina’s clinical interests include a variety of presenting problems, such as: depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, struggles with life transitions, struggles with social skills, autism spectrum disorder, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma, as well as executive functioning disorders like attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 

Background

Tina Kourtis graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She continued on and earned her Master of Sciences in Counseling degree from National Louis University in Chicago as well as her Master of Education in Research Methodology degree from Loyola University in Chicago.  During her training Tina gained invaluable experience in group counseling, administering pediatric neuropsychological assessments, and crisis counseling.  Tina also has several years’ experience and training working with children, adolescents and families.

Tina has continued her education and training in grief counseling, art therapy, and cognitive-behavioral treatment strategies.

Tina is fluent in and offers services in both English and Greek.
