Michael Chapman, MA (he/him/his)

Michael Chapman is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds. Michael enjoys individual, couples, and group modalities. Michael values a truly collaborative approach that allows the patient to take ownership of their treatment.  Michael believes in the importance of creating a therapeutic space where the patient can show up as their authentic selves and be open.

Michael utilizes various evidenced-based approaches to care, such as cognitive-behavioral, existentialism, person-centered, psychodynamic, strength-based, and acceptance and commitment therapy strategies.

Michael’s clinical interests include a variety of presenting issues, such as: grief and loss, trauma, anxiety disorders, depression and other mood disorders, bipolar disorder, agoraphobia, school and academic issues, identity development, relationship difficulties, communication, stress management, self-esteem challenges, behavioral challenges, life transitions, divorce, family conflict, personality disorders, as well as social skills struggles.

Background

Michael has previous clinical experience working in hospital and community mental health settings. Michael earned his Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Northwestern University.  Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Public Health degree from Wayne State University.

Michael has furthered his education completing continuing education in the following areas: trauma informed counseling and crisis management.

Michael is a student member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and American Psychosocial Association (APA).

Michael is passionate about working with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC persons. Michael identifies as a gay man and enjoys working with people who hold similar identities. Michael is an ally of body positivity, cancer patients and families, LGTBQIA+, HIV/AIDS, open relationship non-monogamy, racial justice, sex worker, sex-positive/kink, single mothers, vegan, and veterans.
